CHAPEL HILL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Come as you are.
At Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, our mission is to reflect God’s love with openness, honesty, and a willingness to serve. We welcome you to join our Chapel Hill family of faith as we seek to carry out this mission and discover the presence and power of God in new and special ways every day.
Our Sunday worship begins at 10:30am at 4071 Naomi Road in Sodus, Michigan. We invite you to join us for coffee and fellowship immediately following worship.
Who We Are
Since 1861, Chapel Hill United Methodist Church has served a primarily rural community located in Southwestern Michigan. We are a service and mission oriented congregation that participates in many activities throughout the year.
Where We Come From
Chapel Hill United Methodist Church dates its origins to United Brethren Classes organized in local schools as early as 1861. We officially began with the union of the Sodus and Shanghai United Brethren Classes in 1869 to form Chapel Hill. The church was greatly strengthened by the union of the Naomi Evangelical United Brethren Church with Chapel Hill in 1966.
Among recent new members, several families have come from the former Bainbridge and Grace United Methodist Churches. Earlier groups uniting with Chapel Hill include those from the former Sodus Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Christian Church, and Union Evangelical United Brethren Church.
The church started with a small white wood frame structure on the corner of Naomi and Hillandale roads and seated around 100 people. In 1963, the educational unit was built to accommodate the growing number of children in Sunday school. By 1976, we prayerfully started construction of a barrier-free facility and in 1977 were blessed to begin worshipping in the new sanctuary.
Where We Are Headed
We are all a work in progress—working towards being disciples of Christ perfected in love.
We are called to grow as disciples of Christ and to live Christ’s love in the community and the world. The vision of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church is to develop and empower disciples to become Christ’s church and to share and experience God’s love as believers through worship and outreach.
We want to be the hands and feet of Christ in our world today by living lives that reflect God’s love and grace. We seek to live as children of God desiring to walk with a greater integrity in the ways of Scriptures and in the image of Christ.
What This Means For You
A place to belong. A place to find true community. A safe place to engage and explore your faith. A place to get outside the humdrum of everyday life to experience transcendence in worship, in prayer, and in teaching.
We believe Chapel Hill serves as a place of love and care where people have the opportunity to live out God’s blessings and to be of service to one another. We invite you to come and worship with us and let us walk together as we discover God’s plan for our lives.
